Due to increased concern about crime in the Kenwick and Mentelle neighborhoods, we will be having a special meeting to discuss issues regarding crime and safety.
Kenwick residents have been making great use of our Facebook page and email list serve to report suspicious activity and incidents of theft. Social media and email groups are great for quickly reporting this sort of activity. However, this may make us feel more uncomfortable about our surroundings simply because we are more aware. Year-to-date compared to the same time period last year, overall reported crime in Kenwick is actually down more than 30%. Theft and Burglary offenses within that reported time period are down just under 30% at 28%. This does not diminish the fact that crime is still present and we want to make it increasingly harder for criminals to conduct their business in our neighborhoods.
Commander Doug Pape from the LFUCG Police department will be present to talk about types of crimes that are happening in our neighborhood, give tips on crime prevention, and answer questions. Mentelle neighborhood residents have been invited as well as representatives from Fairway and Ashland neighborhoods. Fifth District Council Member, Bill Farmer and Third District Council Member, Diane Lawless will also attend this meeting. Bring your questions and concerns, and as always, report suspicious behavior to the Police by calling the non- emergency number at (859) 258-3600.
Please remember to keep an eye out for your neighborsʼ homes, report all theft (regardless of the value), and alert the police and your neighbors if you see suspicious activity.
