Let’s Clean Up Our Neighborhood!

 Date: Saturday June 26th, 2010 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Let’s Clean Up Our Neighborhood! Kenwick is participating in the great American Cleanup again this year.  Clean out your attics and garages on this date or help out by volunteering. KNA invites volunteers to walk around the neighborhood for about an hour to remove trash along our streets. We want to beautify the neighborhood. We will meet at 8 a.m. at the Kenwick Center. Bring gloves if you have them. We will provide trash bags. For more information, call Nicole at 858-333-3059.

To help clean up our neighborhood there will be an additional trash pickup day on Saturday that does not have the usual trash restrictions. Old appliances, electronics, construction materials, tires, large branches and other large items usually restricted from pickup may be placed on the curb by 3 p.m. and will be removed that day. Additionally, there will be an LFUCG truck parked at the Kenwick Center from 8 a.m.  Saturday June 26th until 6 a.m. Monday June 28th   Anything disposed of in the truck will be hauled away at no charge.

Here are answers to some questions about the clean up that is coming up next weekend:

1. Please begin putting things on the curb (and NOT on the sidewalk) Friday evening.  This will help make things move more quickly in the morning on Saturday.
2. We are still required to separate our throw-aways.  There is trash, recycling and yard waste.  It is not necessary to put things into the Rosie, Herbie, or Lenny, but there are to be three distinct piles.
3. The city will provide separate waste, recycling, and (I believe) yard waste trucks to drive around the neighborhood from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.  This is why everything needs to be sorted, but also know that there will be some movement on the streets due to the trucks.
4. Electronics are to be included with the recyclables.  The city recycling team will separate the recyclable components from any hazardous materials.
5. There will be one trash truck parked at the Kenwick Center from Saturday to early Monday morning.  If you cannot participate in the clean up on Saturday, you are welcome to throw away your trash in this truck.  It will be available all weekend; however, there will be no one to help get your trash into the truck.  You cannot leave trash near the truck; it must be in the truck.
6. Volunteers would be appreciated, and are not required to be out the entire time.  The volunteers will meet starting at 9:00 a.m. at the park, to walk around and answer questions and pick up obvious trash in the right-of-ways in the neighborhood.  If you are interested in volunteering, please bring gloves and meet at the park.
